moros -- foolish, stupid; lacking wisdom or good sense, morally or intellectually dull
The adjective moros ('foolish, stupid') describes someone or something devoid of sense, wisdom, or sound judgment. In classical Greek it ranged from physical sluggishness to intellectual dullness; in the New Testament it carries sharper moral and spiritual overtones. Jesus uses it to condemn empty insult (Matt 5:22), to characterize the man who builds on sand (Matt 7:26), and to distinguish the five unprepared virgins (Matt 25:2-3). His searing rebuke of the scribes and Pharisees -- 'Fools and blind!' (Matt 23:17) -- wields it as a verdict on spiritual blindness. Paul inverts its shame in 1 Cor 1:25, declaring that 'the foolishness of God is wiser than men,' reclaiming the term as a paradox of divine wisdom.
