μεθίστημι: G3179
To remove, transfer, or displace from one position or state to another; to cause to change allegiance or location.
Carries the force of a decisive relocation, whether political, spiritual, or physical. God removed Saul and raised up David (Acts 13:22); the Father transferred believers from the domain of darkness into the kingdom of the Son (Col 1:13). Paul says faith could 'remove' mountains (1 Cor 13:2). The Spanish 'ha apartado' and French 'déplacer' both highlight this sense of authoritative displacement. It implies not merely motion but a change of regime or condition.
Senses
1. sense 1 — To remove, transfer, or displace someone or something from one position, authority, or state to another. The word implies purposeful, often authoritative relocation. God 'removed' Saul as king (Acts 13:22); believers are 'transferred' from darkness to Christ's kingdom (Col 1:13); faith could 'remove' mountains (1 Cor 13:2). In Luke 16:4 the steward fears being 'removed' from his post. The German 'versetzen' captures this sense of deliberate repositioning. 5×
