V-AIA-3P  |  4× in 1 sense
To let down, lower; used of sending something down by means of a rope, sheet, or opening.
Describes the deliberate act of lowering or letting something down from a higher position. In the Gospels, friends lower a paralytic through a roof opening to reach Jesus (Luke 5:19), and in Acts, Paul is let down in a basket through the city wall (Acts 9:25). The Spanish and French renderings (bajaron, descendre) consistently emphasize downward directed movement, reinforcing the core spatial sense of controlled descent.

Senses
1. sense 1 To let down or lower something from a higher to a lower position, typically by means of a cord, sheet, or basket. The multilingual evidence uniformly points to controlled downward movement: Spanish bajaron ('they lowered'), French descendre ('to descend'). In Luke 5:19 it describes lowering the paralytic through tiles; in Acts 9:25 Paul is lowered in a basket; in Acts 10:11 and 11:5 Peter sees a great sheet being let down from heaven in his vision.
