V-IIM-3S  |  1× in 1 sense
To prosper, be well-off; to have resources and means
This verb describes having sufficient or abundant resources, being in favorable circumstances, prospering financially or materially. Luke uses it in Acts 11:29 when describing how the Antioch disciples decided to send relief to Judean believers: 'each according to his ability' (literally, 'according to how each one prospered'). The word indicates having means available to share, not mere subsistence.

Senses
1. sense 1 The Antioch church's relief effort (Acts 11:29) shows early Christian generosity responding proportionally to means. Those who prospered or had resources contributed according to their ability, establishing a pattern of need-based sharing across geographical boundaries. The translations vary ('was-prospered,' 'prosperaba,' 'avoir-les-moyens') but consistently indicate available resources, financial capacity that enabled generous response to distant brothers' famine needs.
