Appearing, manifestation; a visible display of divine presence, used of Christ's first and second advent.
A noun denoting a striking, visible manifestation — originally used in Hellenistic Greek for the dramatic appearance of a deity or a royal visitation. In the NT, it belongs exclusively to the Pastoral Epistles and 2 Thessalonians, where it frames both Christ's incarnation and his anticipated return in glory. Paul speaks of the grace 'now revealed through the appearing of our Savior' (2 Tim 1:10) and also of 'his appearing and his kingdom' still to come (2 Tim 4:1). The German 'Erscheinung' captures both the visibility and the grandeur; the Spanish 'manifestacion' emphasizes the unveiling of what was hidden.
