Epeita is an adverb of sequence that marks the next step in a temporal or logical chain. Compounded from epi ('upon') and eita ('then'), it serves as a more deliberate marker than the simple 'then' (tote), often enumerating ordered stages. Paul uses it masterfully in 1 Corinthians 15:5-8 to list the resurrection appearances in order — 'then to the twelve... then to more than five hundred... then to James... then to all the apostles' — and again in 15:23-24 to sequence eschatological events. In 1 Corinthians 12:28, it ranks spiritual gifts: 'first apostles, then prophets, then teachers.' Spanish 'despues/luego,' French 'ensuite,' and German 'danach' all render this sequential sense.
