To turn aside, deviate, or swerve from a path; to wander away from sound teaching or proper conduct.
Conveys the image of veering off a road or course, used almost exclusively in the Pastoral Epistles and Hebrews for doctrinal or moral deviation. Some have 'swerved' from sincere faith into empty talk (1 Tim 1:6), others have turned aside after Satan (1 Tim 5:15), and Timothy is warned to avoid profane babbling lest he be 'turned aside' (1 Tim 6:20; 2 Tim 4:4). Hebrews 12:13 uses it physically: make straight paths so that the lame limb is not 'turned out of joint.' Spanish 'desviarse' vividly captures the wandering-off-course image.
