V-PPM/P-GNS  |  34× in 2 senses
To go out or proceed forth; of physical departure from a place and of words or spirit emanating from a source.
A compound verb (ek + poreuomai) meaning to travel out from or to issue forth. In the Synoptic Gospels it often describes crowds going out to see John the Baptist (Matt 3:5) or Jesus leaving a city (Matt 20:29; Mark 1:5). Its deeper theological weight appears when Jesus teaches that what defiles comes out from the heart (Matt 15:11, 18; Mark 7:15, 20), and supremely in John 15:26 where the Spirit of truth 'proceeds from the Father.' Spanish captures both with 'salir' (go out) and 'proceder' (proceed), while French uses 'sortir' for both, though the theological distinction is unmistakable in context.

Senses
1. go out, depart physically Physical departure — going out, marching forth, or traveling away from a place. This is the majority usage (27 of 34 occurrences), covering crowds streaming out of Jerusalem (Matt 3:5; Mark 1:5), Jesus departing from Jericho (Matt 20:29), and people leaving cities or regions. Spanish 'que-salían' and German 'ausgehen' both reflect straightforward spatial movement. The Septuagint already employs this sense for military marching out of camp. 27×

2. proceed, emanate from source Proceeding or emanating from a source — used of words issuing from the mouth (Matt 4:4; 15:11), evil thoughts emerging from the heart (Matt 15:18; Mark 7:20-23), and the Spirit proceeding from the Father (John 15:26). Spanish 'procede' and German 'geht-aus' carry this metaphysical weight. The Johannine use in the Paraclete discourse gave this sense its profound creedal significance in the filioque debates of later centuries.
