εἴσειμι G1524
To enter, go into; to pass from outside to inside a place or structure
A compound verb (eis + eimi, 'to go into') that serves as a near-synonym of eiserchomai but with a slightly more formal or literary register. In the book of Acts it describes movement into sacred and institutional spaces: entering the temple (Acts 3:3, 21:26), going in to visit James (Acts 21:18). Hebrews 9:6 uses it for the priests' regular entry into the outer tabernacle. Spanish 'entrar' and French 'entrer' render it straightforwardly, while German 'hineingehen' preserves the directional prefix.
Senses
1. sense 1 — To go into or enter a place, especially a building, sacred space, or assembly. This verb functions as a more literary alternative to eiserchomai, appearing predominantly in Acts and Hebrews. In Acts 3:3 a lame man sees people entering the temple; Acts 21:18 and 21:26 describe Paul entering to visit James and then the temple for purification; Hebrews 9:6 describes the priests' regular entry into the first tabernacle. Translations (spa 'entrar/entro,' fra 'entrer,' deu 'hineingehen') uniformly convey physical movement from outside to inside. 4×
