wedding, marriage feast — a nuptial celebration or the institution of marriage itself
Gamos denotes both the wedding celebration and the broader institution of marriage. In Jesus' parables, the 'wedding feast' (gamos) becomes a powerful image of the kingdom of God — the king who prepares a banquet for his son (Matt 22:2-14) and the wise and foolish virgins awaiting the bridegroom (Matt 25:10). At Cana, Jesus performs his first sign at a gamos (John 2:1-2). In the Epistles, the writer of Hebrews declares that 'marriage should be honored by all' (Heb 13:4), while Revelation culminates in the 'marriage supper of the Lamb' (Rev 19:7-9). Spanish 'boda/bodas,' French 'noces,' and German 'Hochzeit' consistently capture both the festive event and the covenantal bond.

Senses
1. wedding / marriage feast A wedding celebration or marriage feast, encompassing both the joyful banquet itself (Matt 22:2-14; John 2:1-2; Rev 19:7-9) and the marital institution (Heb 13:4). In parabolic usage, the wedding feast becomes an eschatological image of the kingdom — invitation, readiness, and the final consummation at the marriage supper of the Lamb. All 16 NT occurrences, whether singular or plural, nominative or accusative, refer to nuptial celebration or the state of wedlock without semantic subdivision. 16×
