Unlike zoe, which in the New Testament typically carries spiritual or eternal connotations, bios is firmly earthly. It divides into two senses that classical Greek already distinguished: life as lived experience and life as material resources. The parable of the sower warns that 'cares and riches and pleasures of life' choke the word (Luke 8:14), while the widow at the temple treasury cast in 'all the livelihood she had' (Mark 12:44; Luke 21:4). Spanish captures both with 'vida' but also uses 'bienes' (goods) and 'sustento' (sustenance) for the material sense, revealing the split that a single translation might obscure.
