V-PMA-2P  |  3× in 1 sense
depart, withdraw, go away from; to leave a place or person
This verb signifies departing or withdrawing from a place or situation. Jesus commands evildoers to 'depart' from him (Matt 7:23). An unclean spirit violently convulses a boy and 'departs' from him (Luke 9:39). Paul and his companions 'departed' from Perga after John Mark left them (Acts 13:13). The word emphasizes the act of leaving or withdrawing, whether commanded, voluntary, or in the case of the demon, forced. It can carry overtones of separation or cessation of presence.

Senses
1. sense 1 Expresses departure or withdrawal in varied contexts. Matthew 7:23 records Jesus's eschatological verdict: 'Depart' (ἀποχωρεῖτε) from me, you workers of lawlessness. Luke 9:39 describes a spirit that seizes a boy and barely 'departs' (ἀποχωρεῖ) from him, reluctant withdrawal after violent manifestation. Acts 13:13 narrates Paul and companions 'having departed' (ἀποχωρήσας) from Perga. The Spanish forms ('apartaos,' 'se-aparta') and French ('partir,' 's'éloigner') capture both commanded and voluntary departure.
