Revelation, disclosure — the divine unveiling of hidden truth or eschatological reality
From apo ('away') and kalypsis ('covering'), this noun denotes the uncovering of what was concealed — divine truth, a person's true nature, or end-time events. Simeon calls the infant Jesus 'a light for revelation to the Gentiles' (Luke 2:32). Paul uses it for the disclosure of God's mystery kept secret through the ages (Rom 16:25) and for the future revealing of Christ and the sons of God (Rom 8:19; 1 Cor 1:7). It also titles the final book of Scripture. French 'révélation' and German 'Offenbarung' both capture the sense of making openly known what was previously hidden.
