1. disbelieve / be faithless — To refuse to believe, to be unbelieving or faithless; the verbal form corresponding to the adjective ἄπιστος. In Mark 16:11 the disciples 'disbelieved' (ἠπίστησαν) the report that Jesus was alive, and in 16:16 the one 'having disbelieved' (ἀπιστήσας) will be condemned. In Luke 24:11 the apostles 'were disbelieving' (ἠπίστουν) the women's testimony from the empty tomb, and in 24:41 they still 'were disbelieving' (ἀπιστούντων) for joy. In Rom 3:3 Paul asks whether some 'disbelieved' (ἠπίστησάν), would their unbelief nullify God's faithfulness? In 1 Pet 2:7 it describes those 'disbelieving' (ἀπιστοῦσιν) the cornerstone. In 2 Tim 2:13 'if we are faithless' (ἀπιστοῦμεν), he remains faithful. In Acts 28:24 some 'were disbelieving' (ἠπίστουν) Paul's testimony.
