[חָסַד] vb. 1. be good, kind (NH חָסַד in deriv. חָסִיד pious; Aramaic חֲסַד be kind, mild (then beg), chiefly in deriv. חִסְדָּא etc.; cf. perhaps Arabic حَشَدَ usually pl. they assembled, sq. لَهُ they combined for him, and took pains to shew him courtesy Lane 574c, v. also RSProph. 409 (and Schu AE v. in Thes); >Thes al. who find primary meaning in eager zeal or desire (‖ קנא), whence develop kindness (as above), and envy, Arabic حَسَدَ, حَسَدٌ envy (vb. & n.), Aramaic חֲסַד be put to shame, ܚܰܣܶܕ חַסֵּד reproach, revile, v.
