To report, bring back word; to proclaim or announce publicly; to be reported to
Apangello covers the full arc of message delivery in the New Testament. At its core, it means to bring back a report -- the shepherds 'reported' what they had seen (Luke 2:20), and the women 'reported' the resurrection to the disciples (Matt 28:8). In a more elevated register, it shades into public proclamation: Paul 'proclaimed' repentance to Jews and Gentiles (Acts 26:20), and Jesus promises to 'announce' the Father plainly (John 16:25). Spanish distinguishes informar (report) from anunciar (proclaim), while German berichten captures both nuances. A rare passive occurrence notes that something 'was reported' to Jesus (Luke 8:20).

Senses
1. report or tell news The primary and most frequent sense: to bring back a report, to relay news or information. A messenger or witness tells someone what happened -- the Gadarene swineherds 'reported' to the town (Matt 8:33), Jesus tells John's disciples 'report what you hear and see' (Matt 11:4), and the women rush to 'report' the empty tomb (Matt 28:8). This is the default narrative communication verb, with equivalents in Spanish (informar/anunciar), French (rapporter), and German (berichten). 38×

2. proclaim or announce publicly A more public, authoritative sense: to proclaim or announce, often with theological weight. Matthew 12:18 quotes Isaiah: 'he shall announce justice to the nations.' Jesus promises 'I will announce to you plainly about the Father' (John 16:25). Paul 'announced' the need for repentance (Acts 26:20). The shift from private reporting to public declaration is marked in Spanish by the move from informar to anunciar and in French by annoncer.

3. be reported or informed The passive voice: to be reported to, to have information delivered to oneself. In Luke 8:20, Jesus is told 'it was reported to him' that his mother and brothers stood outside. This is a straightforward grammatical extension of the active sense into passive reception of news.
