Compounded from ana (up) and pempō (send), this verb carries the core idea of sending someone upward—whether geographically, socially, or legally. All NT occurrences cluster in legal-jurisdictional contexts. Pilate sends Jesus up to Herod (Luke 23:7), Herod sends him back (Luke 23:11, 15), and Festus refers Paul's case to Caesar (Acts 25:21). Paul's sending of Onesimus back to Philemon (Phlm 1:12) adds a personal dimension. Spanish neatly distinguishes the directional nuances: 'envió' (sent), 'envié de vuelta' (sent back).
