V-Qal-QalPassPrtcpl-mp  |  10× in 1 sense
To transplant or plant firmly; as a passive participle, 'planted' — used poetically of trees, vines, and the righteous
This verb describes the deliberate act of setting a plant or tree into soil so it takes deep root. It appears almost exclusively in poetic and prophetic contexts. The famous image of the righteous person 'planted by streams of water' in Psalm 1:3 and Jeremiah 17:8 uses the passive participle of this verb, as does Psalm 92:13's picture of the righteous flourishing when 'planted in the house of the LORD.' Ezekiel employs it for God's sovereign transplanting of a cedar sprig on a high mountain (Ezek 17:22-23) and for Judah as a vine planted by abundant waters (Ezek 17:8, 10; 19:10, 13).

Senses
1. to plant, to be planted To transplant or plant firmly in the ground, used of trees and vines set in soil to take root and flourish. The passive participle 'planted' (shatuul) appears in the beloved wisdom image of Psalm 1:3 and Jeremiah 17:8 — the righteous one 'planted by streams of water.' Psalm 92:13 extends this to those 'planted in the house of the LORD.' Ezekiel uses the active forms for God's sovereign act of transplanting a cedar sprig (Ezek 17:22-23) and describes Israel as a vine planted beside abundant waters (Ezek 17:8, 10; 19:10, 13). The root carries overtones of deliberate, purposeful establishment. 10×
