Female companion, neighbor woman, or mate — the feminine counterpart of rea (friend/neighbor).
The feminine form of the common noun rea ('friend, neighbor'), designating a woman's female counterpart, companion, or peer. In Exodus 11:2, Israelite women are told to ask 'each from her neighbor' for silver and gold — the feminine form here matching the masculine instruction for the men. Jeremiah 9:20 uses it in a dirge where women teach their neighbors the funeral lament. In Isaiah 34:15-16, it describes birds of prey pairing with their mates in Edom's desolation. Esther 1:19 employs it in a legal decree: Vashti's royal position shall be given to 're'utah' — another woman more worthy than she.
