Pomegranate; the fruit used in offerings and temple decoration, or the tree itself as an agricultural crop.
One of the seven species that mark the goodness of the Promised Land (Deut 8:8), the pomegranate appears throughout Scripture as both fruit and tree. Its seeds were carried back by the spies from Canaan (Num 13:23), its juice is the sweet wine of Song of Solomon 8:2, and its shape inspired the ornamental bells alternating on the high priest's robe (Exod 28:33-34) and the decorative capitals of Solomon's temple pillars (1 Kgs 7:18-20). Several languages helpfully distinguish tree from fruit — Spanish 'granado' (tree) vs. 'granada' (fruit), Korean '석류나무' vs. '석류' — a distinction the Hebrew itself does not mark morphologically.
1. pomegranate (fruit/ornament) — The pomegranate fruit, whether eaten, pressed for juice (Song 8:2), or serving as the model for decorative ornaments on priestly garments (Exod 28:33-34; 39:24-26) and temple pillars (1 Kgs 7:18-20; Jer 52:22-23). This sense covers 28 occurrences. Translations uniformly render it 'granadas' (Spa), 'grenades' (Fra), 'Granatäpfel' (Deu), all pointing to the fruit itself or its ornamental representation. 28×

2. pomegranate tree — The pomegranate tree as a living plant or agricultural crop, distinguished from its fruit in contexts describing orchards, gardens, or crop failure. Saul sits under a pomegranate tree at Migron (1 Sam 14:2), the beloved's garden is a 'paradise of pomegranates' (Song 4:13), and Joel laments its withering (1:12). The tree sense surfaces clearly in Spanish 'granado' (vs. 'granada'), Korean '석류나무' (vs. '석류'), and Hindi 'अनार-के-पेड़,' confirming the botanical distinction. 4×
