Agitar o perturbar (el mar); aquietar, calmar; en un instante, de repente (uso adverbial del Hifil)
Un verbo compacto que abarca la paradoja del poder divino sobre el mar. En el participio Qal, Dios es 'el que agita el mar para que bramen sus olas' (Jer 31:35; Isa 51:15), el agitador soberano de las aguas cosmicas. Sin embargo, en Job 26:12 la misma raiz parece significar lo opuesto: 'con su poder aquieto el mar', el domador de la tormenta cosmica. El Hifil denominativo, derivado del sustantivo rega' (un momento), produce un sentido adverbial — 'en un abrir y cerrar de ojos' — usado para la naturaleza fugaz de la mentira (Prov 12:19) y la velocidad instantanea del juicio divino (Jer 49:19; 50:44).

Isa 51:15 y Jer 31:35 usan la frase identica: Dios es 'el que agita el mar para que bramen sus olas'. Es un titulo de soberania cosmica: el Creador que gobierna las profundidades caoticas. En Job 26:12, 'con su poder aquieto el mar' aparece junto al golpe contra Rahab, describiendo la victoria de Dios sobre el caos.
