A verb meaning to be small, insignificant, or unworthy in the Qal, and to make small or diminish in the Hiphil. Genesis 32:10 has Jacob confessing 'I am unworthy of all the steadfast love' (literally 'I am too small for'). Second Samuel 7:19 and its parallel (1 Chr 17:17) express that God's promises are too great: 'this was a small thing in your eyes' (you went beyond what was expected). Amos 8:5 condemns merchants who 'make the ephah small' (cheat with undersized measures).
