V-Hitpael-Perf-1cp  |  1× in 1 sense
to provision oneself, take as provisions; gathering food supplies for a journey
This Hithpael verb means to supply oneself with provisions or to take something as food for a journey. In Joshua 9, the Gibeonites claim they took bread as their provision from home, though it's now moldy (part of their deception). The verb suggests deliberate preparation, packing supplies for travel. It's the act of provisioning that any traveler or military expedition would undertake, gathering foodstuffs to sustain the journey ahead.

Senses
1. sense 1 Joshua 9:12 has the Gibeonites claim, "This bread we took as our provision from our houses." The Spanish "tomamos como provisión" (we took as provision) and the English "we provisioned" capture the act of securing food supplies. The irony, of course, is that their whole story is a ruse, the moldy bread a calculated prop in their deception.
