The feminine plural noun עוֹלֵלוֹת (olelot) refers to the secondary pickings of a vineyard or olive grove — the small clusters left behind after the main harvest. While the term is agricultural in origin, every biblical occurrence uses it figuratively: for a devastated remnant (Isa 17:6; 24:13), for the meagerness of what invaders leave behind (Jer 49:9 = Obad 5), and memorably, for Gideon's modest achievement that surpassed Ephraim's full vintage (Judg 8:2). Spanish 'rebusco' and French 'glanure' capture this specialized agricultural-to-metaphorical sense beautifully.
