Tasty food, savory dish, delicacy; especially the savory game-dish Isaac requested from Esau.
Derived from the root ta'am ('to taste'), this masculine noun denotes delicacies or savory food prepared with care. Six of its eight occurrences cluster in Genesis 27, where Isaac asks Esau to prepare matammim -- savory food from hunted game -- before receiving the patriarchal blessing (Gen 27:4, 7, 9, 14, 17, 31). The remaining two appear in Proverbs 23:3, 6, warning against coveting a ruler's deceptive delicacies. Spanish manjares ('delicacies') and German Leckerbissen ('dainty morsels') both convey the sense of specially prepared, appealing food.

Senses
1. delicacy (tasty food) Tasty or savory food, delicacies -- food prepared with special care to please the palate. Prominently featured in the Isaac-Esau-Jacob narrative, where Isaac requests matammim from hunted game as a prelude to blessing (Gen 27:4, 7, 9, 14, 17, 31). In Proverbs 23:3, 6, the word carries a cautionary edge: a ruler's delicacies may be deceptive. Spanish manjares ('delicacies'), German Leckerbissen ('dainty bites'), and English 'delicacies' all capture the sense of food that is specially prepared and appealing, beyond ordinary sustenance.
