To shoot (arrows); in passive (Hophal), to be watered or saturated — an Aramaic-orthography variant of yarah.
An Aramaic-spelled variant of the common verb yarah, this form carries two distinct meanings depending on stem. In the active Hiphil, it describes shooting arrows, as when Joab's soldiers shot at Uriah from the wall of Rabbah (2 Sam 11:24) and in the participial form 'the archers' who struck Saul (1 Sam 31:3). The single Hophal occurrence in Prov 11:25 shifts the meaning entirely: 'he who waters others will himself be watered' — a beautiful reciprocal proverb where generosity returns to the giver. Spanish 'sera regado' (will be irrigated) captures the passive saturation vividly.

Senses
1. shoot (arrows) To shoot arrows or projectiles, used in both the Qal infinitive (2 Chr 26:15, 'to shoot with arrows') and the Hiphil imperfect and participle (2 Sam 11:24, 'and they shot at' the city defenders; 1 Sam 31:3 = 1 Chr 10:3, 'the archers' who wounded Saul). The participial form hammorim designates professional bowmen. Multilingual glosses confirm the martial reading: Spanish 'los flecheros' (the archers) and 'y dispararon' (and they fired).

2. be watered, be saturated Hophal passive meaning to be watered or saturated, found only in Prov 11:25: 'the generous soul will be enriched, and he who waters will himself also be watered (yoreh).' This passive of pouring/drenching is semantically distant from the shooting sense. Spanish 'sera regado' (will be irrigated) and English 'will be watered' both reflect the agricultural metaphor of reciprocal blessing.
