Cansarse, desfallecer por agotamiento o carencia; también (Hofal) ser hecho volar velozmente
Ante todo, un verbo de agotamiento humano: el cansancio profundo que alcanza incluso a los jóvenes y fuertes. Isaías 40:28-31 construye su famoso crescendo en torno a esta palabra: YHWH no se cansa (yi'af), los jóvenes se cansan y tropiezan, pero los que esperan en YHWH levantarán alas como las águilas. La ironía resulta exquisita cuando el participio Hofal מֻעָף aparece en Daniel 9:21, donde Gabriel llega 'hecho volar velozmente': la misma raíz que en otros contextos significa 'estar exhausto' se transforma aquí en velocidad sobrenatural. El español capta el sentido primario con 'se cansarán' y el sentido de vuelo con 'volando', marcando con claridad el salto semántico.
