Arrow or arrows — a projectile weapon shot from a bow, used literally and as a metaphor for divine judgment
A variant form of the more common chets ('arrow'), this noun appears in both literal and figurative contexts. Its densest cluster is the dramatic narrative of 1 Samuel 20, where Jonathan's arrows serve as a covert signal to David — an episode where the physical object carries enormous narrative weight. Elsewhere it appears in warfare (2 Kgs 9:24; 13:15-18) and metaphorically for God's afflicting hand (Ps 38:2; Job 6:4). Spanish 'flecha,' French 'fleche,' and German 'Pfeil' uniformly confirm the concrete weapon sense.

Senses
1. arrow, arrows A projectile shot from a bow, appearing in both combat narratives and metaphorical speech. Most prominently featured in the Jonathan-David signal scene (1 Sam 20:20-38), where the arrow's landing communicates life-or-death information. Also used of Jehu's lethal shot (2 Kgs 9:24), Elisha's symbolic arrow of victory (2 Kgs 13:15-18), and divine affliction figured as arrows piercing the sufferer (Ps 38:2; Job 6:4). 13×
