Tratar con violencia, hacer mal; arrancar o derribar; sacudir (de una vid); pasivo: ser violentado.
La raíz hebrea חמס lleva la energía cruda de la fuerza injusta: violencia que transgrede los límites morales. Su uso más frecuente es la agresión activa contra los vulnerables: viudas y huérfanos (Jer 22:3), o sacerdotes que profanan la ley de Dios (Ez 22:26; Sof 3:4). Pero la raíz se extiende a territorio sorprendente: una vid que «sacude» sus uvas verdes (Job 15:33) y Dios mismo arrancando violentamente su propio tabernáculo (Lm 2:6). El Nifal pasivo completa el cuadro: quienes sufren violencia la reciben como víctimas (Jer 13:22).
Sentidos
1. Ejercer violencia / maltratar — Sentido nuclear del Qal activo: cometer violencia, agraviar u oprimir injustamente. Es el corazón ético de la raíz, abarcando violencia tanto física como institucional. Los sacerdotes que «violentan» la Torá (Ez 22:26; Sof 3:4) traicionan la confianza sagrada, mientras los opresores que «roban» y «traman» contra los indefensos (Jer 22:3; Job 21:27) violentan a las personas. 5×

2. Sacudir / soltar fruto — Metáfora botánica especializada: una vid que «sacude» o deja caer su fruto verde (Job 15:33). El sentido diverge marcadamente del de violencia: transmite una expulsión natural más que un agravio interpersonal. Elifaz emplea esta imagen para describir al malvado cuyos proyectos abortan prematuramente, como una vid incapaz de llevar su fruto a madurez. 1×

3. Arrancar / derribar — Arrancar, desmantelar o destruir por la fuerza. En Lamentaciones 2:6 Dios desgarra su propia morada «como un huerto»: la imagen es impactante. Dios trata su santuario con la misma fuerza destructiva que en otros pasajes se reserva para los enemigos, intensificando la angustia de la destrucción babilónica. 1×

4. Ser violentado (Nifal) — El Nifal pasivo: ser violentado, sufrir violencia. En Jeremías 13:22 las faldas de Jerusalén «son descubiertas» y sus talones «son violentados»; la voz pasiva transfiere el peso de חמס a la víctima.
