Heber/Cheber — personal name meaning 'associate, companion'; borne by several Israelite men
The proper name חֶבֶר (Chever) derives from the root חבר ('to join, associate') and is borne by at least four distinct individuals in Scripture. The most prominent is Heber the Kenite, husband of Jael, who had separated from the other Kenites and pitched his tent near Kedesh (Judg 4:11, 17). It was into his tent that Sisera fled, only to be killed by Jael (Judg 4:21; 5:24). Other bearers include a grandson of Asher listed in Jacob's family (Gen 46:17; Num 26:45), a Judahite connected to Soco (1 Chr 4:18), and a Benjaminite in the genealogy of Elpaal (1 Chr 8:17). Spanish and English both transliterate as 'Heber.'

Senses
1. Heber / Cheber (personal name) Heber the Kenite, husband of Jael, a descendant of Moses' father-in-law Hobab. He had separated from the main Kenite group and camped near Kedesh-naphtali (Judg 4:11, 17). His political neutrality between Jabin of Hazor and Israel sets the dramatic stage for Jael's decisive act (Judg 4:21; 5:24). Spanish 'Heber,' French 'Héber.' 11×
