συνεργός G4904
fellow worker, co-laborer — one who works alongside another, especially in gospel ministry
Synergos is a distinctly Pauline term, appearing 13 times in the New Testament almost exclusively in Paul's letters to describe those who share the labor of proclaiming the gospel. Formed from syn ('together') and ergon ('work'), the word carries a warm relational tone — these are not mere employees but partners in a shared mission. Paul applies it to an impressive roster: Prisca and Aquila (Rom 16:3), Timothy (Rom 16:21), Titus (2 Cor 8:23), Epaphroditus (Phil 2:25), and several others. The multilingual glosses — Spanish 'colaborador,' French 'collaborateur,' German 'Mitarbeiter' — consistently highlight joint agency and shared purpose.
Senses
1. fellow worker, co-laborer — A substantivized adjective denoting one who works alongside another, used by Paul as a near-technical term for ministry partners in the gospel enterprise. Applied to both individuals and groups: Prisca and Aquila (Rom 16:3), Urbanus (Rom 16:9), Timothy (Rom 16:21), Titus (2 Cor 8:23), Epaphroditus (Phil 2:25), and the believers at Corinth who are 'God's fellow workers' (1 Cor 3:9). All 13 occurrences share this sense of collaborative labor, whether the partnership is with Paul, with one another, or with God himself. 13×
