V-ASP-2P  |  2× in 1 sense
to terrify, startle, or fill with sudden fear
A verb for alarming or frightening. In Luke 21:9, Jesus warns his disciples not to be terrified when they hear of wars and tumults—these things must happen, but the end is not yet. In Luke 24:37, the disciples are startled and frightened when the risen Jesus appears, supposing they see a spirit. One passage addresses eschatological anxiety, the other resurrection surprise. Both involve sudden fear that Jesus addresses with reassuring words.

Senses
1. sense 1 The evidence ('be terrified,' 'seáis aterrados,' 'effrayer') captures sudden alarm. Luke 21:9 counsels against panic at war reports (eschatological disturbances are expected), while 24:37 describes the disciples' terror when Jesus appears post-resurrection. Both involve fear that must be calmed by understanding—either that tribulation precedes the end, or that resurrection bodies are real, not ghostly.
