A compound verb combining lot-casting with additional assignment or attachment. Classical usage included allotting, attributing, or assigning. The passive in Acts 17:4 describes some Jews and many Greeks being joined to Paul and Silas after their Thessalonian synagogue preaching—literally, they were allotted or attached to the missionaries. The verb may suggest divine assignment (God allotted these converts to Paul) or simply describe adherence (they attached themselves to Paul's teaching and joined his company).
