Always, at all times — adverb of continuous or habitual temporal scope
A temporal adverb compounded from pas ('all') and the suffix -tote ('at that time'), yielding the sense 'at every time, always.' It appears in contexts ranging from Jesus' assurance that the poor are 'always' present (Matt 26:11; Mark 14:7) to Paul's exhortations to 'always' rejoice and give thanks (Phil 4:4; 1 Thess 5:16-18). The word also describes the constancy of prayer (Rom 1:9-10; Col 4:12) and the believer's perpetual confidence before God (2 Cor 5:6). Its force ranges from literal 'at all times' to practical 'habitually, consistently.'

Senses
1. sense 1 Expressing unbroken continuity or consistent habit. Jesus uses it of ongoing realities ('the poor you always have,' Matt 26:11), while Paul employs it for the believer's ideal posture ('always rejoicing,' 2 Cor 6:10; 'praying always,' 1 Thess 1:2). Spanish 'siempre,' French 'toujours,' and German 'allezeit' uniformly render this single, unambiguous temporal sense. 42×
