V-AIA-3S  |  2× in 1 sense
to depart, move away, or leave from one place to go to another
To move away, depart, or relocate. Matthew uses it twice to mark Jesus' movements: he departed from the Nazareth area after teaching in parables (13:53), and he left Galilee heading toward Judea (19:1). The verb can mean lifting and removing an object, repealing a decree, or intransitively departing from a place. Classical usage included moving statues from their bases or someone shifting position. Matthew's use is simple geographical transition—Jesus concluding ministry in one region and moving to another.

Senses
1. sense 1 Both Matthew occurrences mark geographical transitions in Jesus' ministry: leaving the Nazareth region (13:53) and departing Galilee for Judea (19:1). The latter signals the beginning of his final journey toward Jerusalem. Classical Greek used it for physically lifting and moving objects or intransitively departing. The verb here serves Matthew's structural purposes, marking major transitions in the gospel narrative. Most translations use simple departure language: departed, left, went away.
