Mediator; one who stands between two parties to broker reconciliation, covenant, or agreement.
Mesites denotes a person who intervenes between two sides to bring about agreement or reconciliation. In the New Testament, this powerful concept applies first to Moses, who served as mediator when the Law was given through angels at Sinai (Galatians 3:19-20). Far more significantly, Christ is declared the one mediator between God and humanity (1 Timothy 2:5) and the mediator of a new and better covenant (Hebrews 8:6; 9:15; 12:24). German 'Mittler' and French 'Mittler' both reflect the 'middle' etymology, capturing the positional sense of standing in between.

Senses
1. mediator (one who intervenes between two parties) One who stands between two parties to bring about reconciliation, agreement, or covenant establishment. Moses is identified as mediator of the Sinai covenant (Gal 3:19-20), where Paul reasons that a mediator implies more than one party, underscoring the conditional nature of the Law. Christ's mediatorship is the theological climax: he is the sole mediator between God and humanity (1 Tim 2:5) and the mediator of a better covenant founded on better promises (Heb 8:6), specifically a new covenant ratified by his own blood (Heb 9:15; 12:24). German and French both render this as 'Mittler,' transparently reflecting the Greek root mesos ('middle'), while Spanish 'mediador' parallels the Latin-derived English term. The concept bridges legal, covenantal, and soteriological registers.
