Adj-AMP  |  4× in 1 sense
Crippled, maimed, deformed; having a limb disabled or cut off, especially a hand or foot.
An adjective describing physical deformity, particularly the loss or disabling of a limb. Classical Greek used it for club-footedness or bandy legs, but NT usage focuses on maimed or crippled hands and feet. In the healing narratives of Matt 15:30–31, the κυλλοί appear alongside the blind, lame, and mute as recipients of Jesus' restorative power. In the discipleship sayings of Matt 18:8 and Mark 9:43, Jesus uses the word hyperbolically: it is better to enter life κυλλόν than to be cast into Gehenna whole. Spanish lisiado and French estropié both capture the sense of disabling injury.

Senses
1. sense 1 Crippled, maimed in a limb, deformed. Describes a person with a disabled or amputated hand or foot. In Matt 15:30–31 the κυλλοί are among the afflicted crowds brought to Jesus for healing, listed alongside the blind and lame—their restoration demonstrates messianic power over bodily brokenness. In Matt 18:8 and Mark 9:43 Jesus employs the term in radical discipleship teaching: entering life maimed is preferable to retaining the offending member and facing judgment. Spanish lisiado ('injured, disabled') and German verstümmelt ('mutilated') both convey severe physical impairment rather than minor defect.
