V-PPA-GMS  |  11× in 2 senses
Give life, make alive, vivify; passive: be made alive, be raised to life — of divine life-giving power.
The Greek verb zoopoieo fuses zoe ('life') with poieo ('make'), creating a word almost exclusively theological in the New Testament: to make alive, to give life. Jesus declares that 'as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, so also the Son gives life to whom he will' (John 5:21), and 'it is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing' (John 6:63). In the passive, the word becomes a cornerstone of resurrection theology: 'in Christ all will be made alive' (1 Cor 15:22), and Christ himself was 'put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit' (1 Pet 3:18). Spanish vivificar, French vivifier, and German lebendig machen all reach for compound life-making vocabulary. The verb insists that life is not self-generated but bestowed.

Senses
1. give life, make alive To give life, make alive, or vivify — the active sense of divine life-giving power bestowed by the Father, the Son, or the Spirit upon the dead, the mortal, or the spiritually inert. This primary sense (8 occurrences) anchors some of the NT's most profound theological statements: the Father and Son jointly 'give life' to the dead (John 5:21), the Spirit 'gives life' where the flesh cannot (John 6:63), God 'gives life to the dead and calls into existence things that do not exist' (Rom 4:17), and the Spirit who raised Jesus 'will also give life to your mortal bodies' (Rom 8:11). Spanish vivifica/da vida, French vivifier, and German lebendig machen converge on causative life-vocabulary. Paul's contrast in 1 Cor 15:45 between the first Adam as a 'living soul' and the last Adam as a 'life-giving spirit' crystallizes the sense: zoopoieo marks the power to originate life, not merely to possess it.

2. be made alive, be vivified To be made alive, be vivified, be raised to life — the passive voice indicating reception of life rather than its bestowal, especially in resurrection contexts. This sense (3 occurrences) carries immense eschatological weight: 'in Christ all will be made alive' (1 Cor 15:22) establishes the universal scope of resurrection hope; the seed analogy in 1 Cor 15:36 ('what you sow is not made alive unless it dies') grounds resurrection in agricultural parable; and 1 Pet 3:18 declares Christ 'put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit,' linking death and vivification in a single redemptive movement. Spanish vivificado/serán vivificados and German lebendig gemacht shift to passive participles, mirroring the Greek grammatical distinction. The passive insists that resurrection is something that happens to a person — received, not achieved.
