N-AFS  |  1× in 1 sense
prominence, pre-eminence, or elevated position
This term denotes prominence in a physical or metaphorical sense. In classical usage it described elevated features like embossed figures on shields or the raised nature of animal horns. By the New Testament era it had developed a metaphorical sense of pre-eminence or superior status, particularly in social or civic contexts. Acts 25:23 uses it to describe the pomp and ceremony accompanying high-ranking officials.

Senses
1. sense 1 The multilingual evidence converges on ceremonial dignity and public display. Spanish 'prominencia' and French 'éminence' both capture the social elevation and visible distinction involved when Agrippa and Bernice enter with great pomp before the assembled officials. This is prominence as public spectacle, not merely abstract superiority.
