Adv  |  6× in 1 sense
Immediately, at once, right away; a temporal adverb marking sudden or prompt action.
Derived from 'ex autes' (from that very [hour/moment]), this adverb marks swift, unhesitating action. It appears predominantly in Acts, where Luke uses it to convey narrative urgency: Cornelius sends for Peter 'at once' (Acts 10:33), the men from Caesarea arrive 'immediately' (Acts 11:11), the tribune rushes soldiers down 'immediately' (Acts 21:32), and Claudius Lysias dispatches Paul by night 'at once' (Acts 23:30). In Mark 6:25, Herodias's daughter comes in 'immediately' with her grim request. Spanish 'inmediatamente' and French 'aussitot' both capture the sense of zero delay.

Senses
1. immediately, at once A temporal adverb meaning 'immediately, at once, right away,' indicating that an action follows another with no intervening delay. Etymologically from 'ex autes (horas)' -- 'from that very (hour).' In Mark 6:25 it describes the alarming speed of Herodias's daughter returning with the request for John's head. In Acts, Luke uses it repeatedly to drive narrative pace: Cornelius's immediate dispatch of servants (10:33), the arrival of the men from Joppa (11:11), the tribune's rapid military response (21:32), and Lysias's overnight transfer of Paul (23:30). Spanish 'inmediatamente' and French 'aussitot' reflect the same temporal immediacy.
