The verb describes dreaming or having dream visions. Peter quotes Joel's prophecy that in the last days, young men will dream dreams (Acts 2:17). Jude describes false teachers as dreamers who defile the flesh and reject authority (Jude 1:8). The Acts usage is neutral or positive (prophetic dreams), while Jude uses it pejoratively of those whose dreams lead them into moral corruption. Classical usage included both literal dreaming and metaphorical disturbing visions.
