חֵ֫לֶם22 n.m. Dn 4:2 dream (𝔗 Syriac; v. BH חֲלוֹם, √ II. חלם);—abs. ח׳ Dn 4:2; 7:1; emph. חֶלְמָא 2:4 +; sf. הֶלְמִי 4:6, -מָךְ 2:28; pl. חֶלְמִין 5:12;—dream, as vehicle or revelation Dn 2:4 + 10 times, 4:3 + 6 times, 5:12; to prophet 7:1.

ὄνᾰρ, τό, used only in nominative and accusative singular, the other cases being supplied by ὄνειρος (which see):— dream, vision in sleep, opposed to a waking vision, οὐκ ὄ., ἀλλ᾽ ὕπαρ ἐσθλόν Refs 8th c.BC+; ἄκουε δὴ ὄ. ἀντὶ ὀνείρατος dream for dream, Refs 5th c.BC+; ὥστε μηδὲ ὄ. ἰδεῖν, of profound sleep, Refs 'you are telling me what I know already', Refs __2 proverbial of anything fleeting or unreal, ὀλιγοχρόνιον.. ὥσπερ ὄ. ἐνύπν-ιον, τό, (ὕπνος) thing seen in sleep, in apposition with ὄνειρος, θεῖός μοι ἐνύπνιον ἦλθεν ὄνειρος a dream from the gods, a vision in sleep, came to me, Refs 8th c.BC+.; ἐ. παιδός the vision of a boy, Refs 1st c.BC+ 'to feast with the Barmecide', Refs 5th c.BC+; compare{ἐνύπνιος} __2 after Refs 8th c.BC+, dream, ὄψις ἐνυπνίου the vision of a dream, Refs 5th c.BC+ a mere dream, and ὄνειρος a significant, prophetic one; but the distinction is not generally observed, except by Philo.
