V-FIP-3S  |  4× in 1 sense
to uproot, pull out by the roots; to eradicate completely
Drawn from agricultural language, this verb describes the violent act of tearing a plant out by its roots. Jesus uses it in the parable of the wheat and tares, warning against premature uprooting that would harm good plants (Matt 13:29), and declares that every plant not planted by the Father will be uprooted (Matt 15:13). In Luke 17:6, even a mulberry tree obeys the command to uproot itself. Jude 1:12 applies the image metaphorically to false teachers—'uprooted, twice dead.'

Senses
1. sense 1 To pull up by the roots, to eradicate or destroy completely. The agricultural metaphor carries theological weight across all four occurrences. Spanish 'desarraigar' and French 'déraciner' both transparently reflect the root-removal imagery (raíz, racine). In Matt 13:29 the concern is collateral damage from premature uprooting; Matt 15:13 announces divine judgment; Luke 17:6 illustrates faith's power over nature; Jude 1:12 extends the metaphor to spiritual barrenness.
