V-ASP-1S  |  8× in 1 sense
To restore to a former condition; to re-establish, heal, or return something to its original state.
A triple-compound verb (ἀπό + κατά + ἵστημι) meaning to set something back to where it stood before. In the Gospels, it appears most vividly in healing narratives — the withered hand restored to wholeness (Matt 12:13; Mark 3:5; Luke 6:10) and the blind man's sight restored at Bethsaida (Mark 8:25). But it also carries an eschatological dimension: the disciples ask whether Jesus will 'restore' the kingdom to Israel (Acts 1:6), and Jesus teaches that Elijah comes first to 'restore all things' (Matt 17:11; Mark 9:12). Spanish 'restaurar' and French 'rétablir' both preserve the sense of returning to an original, intended state.

Senses
1. restore to a former state To restore something or someone to a previous, proper condition — whether physical healing or eschatological re-establishment. The healing miracles show instantaneous bodily restoration: a hand 'was restored' healthy as the other (Mark 3:5), and sight 'was restored' so that the man saw everything clearly (Mark 8:25). The prophetic-eschatological use envisions cosmic restoration: Elijah 'restores all things' (Matt 17:11), and the disciples wonder about restoring the kingdom (Acts 1:6). Spanish 'fue restaurada' and German 'wiederherstellen' both reflect this return-to-wholeness meaning.
