V-Hofal-Prtcpl-ms  |  21× in 1 sense
To be twisted or twined; used exclusively of linen thread in tabernacle construction (Hophal participle)
Occurs only as a Hophal participle (mashzar), always modifying fine linen (shesh) in the Exodus tabernacle specifications. The twisted linen was used for the curtains, veil, screen, and court hangings of the tabernacle (Exod 26:1, 31, 36; 27:9, 16, 18; 28:6, 8, 15; 36:8, 35, 37; 38:9, 16, 18; 39:2, 5, 8, 24, 29). The consistent pairing 'fine twisted linen' became a technical phrase in priestly literature. Spanish 'torcido,' French 'retors,' and German 'gezwirnt' all render the same idea: yarn spun by twisting multiple plies together.

Senses
1. sense 1 Twisted or twined, describing fine linen thread whose strands are plied together for strength and beauty. Every occurrence is a Hophal participle in the tabernacle building narratives (Exod 26–39), forming the technical phrase 'fine twisted linen' (shesh mashzar) for curtains, veils, screens, and priestly garments. Spanish 'torcido,' French 'retors,' and German 'gezwirnt' each render this textile-manufacturing term with a single consistent gloss. 21×
