Prep-b | N-ms  |  6× in 1 sense
Thunder; the mighty rumbling sound ascribed to God's power and theophanic self-revelation.
Refers to the deep, reverberating roar of thunder, consistently attributed in the Hebrew Bible to Yahweh's sovereign might. In the Psalms, 'Your thunder was in the whirlwind' (Ps 77:18) and 'I answered you in the secret place of thunder' (Ps 81:7) link thunder directly to divine encounter. Job 26:14 uses it figuratively for the mere whisper-edge of God's power, while Job 39:25 extends the image to the thunderous battle-cry of commanders. Spanish 'trueno' and German 'Donner' both capture the raw acoustic force, while the French 'tonnerre' preserves the same cosmic register.

Senses
1. thunder Thunder as a natural and theophanic phenomenon, always ascribed to Yahweh's power and majesty. The word appears in contexts of divine self-disclosure (Ps 81:7, 'in the secret place of thunder'), cosmic authority over creation (Ps 104:7, at God's rebuke the waters fled), and as a figure for overwhelming might (Job 26:14, the 'thunder of his power' is only the outskirts of his ways). In Job 39:25 it extends metaphorically to the thunderous shout of commanders in battle. Multilingual glosses uniformly render it as a single natural-force concept: English 'thunder,' Spanish 'trueno,' French 'tonnerre,' German 'Donner.'
