1. thunder — Thunder as a natural/theophanic phenomenon, consistently ascribed to Yahweh's power and majesty throughout the Hebrew Bible. Used of God's thunder-voice in theophany (Ps 77:18 'Your thunder', Ps 104:7 'Your thunder', Isa 29:6 'with thunder'), in wisdom poetry for the incomprehensibility of God's power (Job 26:14 'and the thunder of his might', Job 39:25 'the thunder of commanders'), and in the secret place of thunder (Ps 81:7). Uniformly rendered across all languages: arb ra'dika/ra'd, deu 'Donner', fra 'tonnerre', hin 'garajana/garaj', kor 'cheondung/ure', spa 'trueno'. No polysemy detected; all occurrences refer to literal or metaphorical thunder as an expression of divine power. 6×
