Grape(s) — the fruit of the vine, used collectively for harvest produce and individually for the berry
The common Hebrew noun for grape or grapes, encompassing both the individual berry and the collective harvest. It appears in some of Scripture's most vivid agricultural imagery: Pharaoh's cupbearer dreams of pressing grapes into a cup (Gen 40:10–11), the spies bring back a massive grape cluster from Canaan (Num 13:23), and the Song of Moses speaks poetically of 'the blood of the grape' (Gen 49:11; Deut 32:14). The word also carries theological weight in Isaiah's parable of the vineyard that yielded only wild grapes (Isa 5:2, 4) and in the ominous 'grapes of poison' (Deut 32:32). German distinguishes 'Traube' (cluster) from 'Beeren' (berries), but Hebrew uses this single term for both.
Senses
1. grape(s) — The grape fruit, used both collectively for grapes as agricultural produce and individually for the grape berry. Appears in viticulture and harvest contexts: Pharaoh's cupbearer pressing grapes (Gen 40:10–11), the spies' enormous cluster from Canaan (Num 13:23), Nazirite abstinence regulations (Num 6:3), and sabbatical year provisions (Lev 25:5). Also carries figurative force in the vineyard parable of Isaiah 5:2, 4 and the 'grapes of poison' in Deuteronomy 32:32. German distinguishes 'Traube' (cluster) from 'Beeren' (berries), while Hebrew uses this single term. 19×
