Worship, prostrate oneself (Aramaic) — to bow down in homage or religious veneration before an idol or king
The Aramaic verb סְגִד (segid) means to prostrate oneself in worship or pay homage, used exclusively in Daniel. It appears most prominently in the golden-image narrative: all peoples are commanded to 'fall down and worship' at the sound of instruments (Dan 3:5-7, 10-12, 14-15, 18, 28). The verb pairs with nepal ('fall down') to form a vivid double expression. Nebuchadnezzar performs this act toward Daniel after the dream revelation (Dan 2:46). The cognate Arabic sajada survives in masjid ('mosque,' literally 'place of prostration'). Spanish 'adorar' captures the reverential dimension.
