Conj-w | V-Hifil-ConjPerf-3ms  |  23× in 2 senses
To sprinkle ritually (Hifil); to spurt or spatter as blood splashes (Qal).
The verb nazah appears in two stems with related but distinct meanings. In the Hifil, it is the standard term for ritual sprinkling -- the priest deliberately applies blood, water, or oil in purification ceremonies (Lev 4:6; 14:7; Num 19:19). French asperger and Spanish rociar both capture this controlled, purposeful action. In the Qal, the verb describes blood spattering involuntarily -- splashing onto garments when a sacrifice is slaughtered (Lev 6:27), or Jezebel's blood spurting against the wall when she is thrown down (2 Kgs 9:33). Isaiah 63:3 uses this forceful image of blood spattering on the Divine Warrior's robes during judgment.

Senses
1. sprinkle ritually (Hifil causative) The Hifil causative meaning to sprinkle or cause liquid (blood, water, oil) to be applied in a deliberate ritual or ceremonial context. This is the primary priestly action in Levitical purification rites (Lev 4:6, 17; 14:7; Num 19:19). French asperger and Spanish rociar both convey the controlled, purposeful nature of the sprinkling. Exod 29:21 describes Moses sprinkling blood and anointing oil on Aaron's garments. 19×

2. spatter, splash (Qal) The Qal intransitive meaning for liquid to spurt, spatter, or splash without deliberate ritual agency. Blood spatters onto garments (Lev 6:27) or against a wall (2 Kgs 9:33, of Jezebel's death). In Isa 63:3 the Divine Warrior's garments are spattered with the lifeblood of nations -- English spattered and Spanish salpicó both mark the violent, involuntary nature of this splashing, distinct from controlled priestly sprinkling.
